Meeting/Conference Notification

I. Conference Background

In December 2022, with the approval of the China South Asia Studies Association, the Indian Ocean Region Research Center of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics took the initiative to establish the Indian Ocean Studies Association, a branch of the China South Asia Studies Association. The Second Annual Conference of the Indian Ocean Studies Association is scheduled to be held in Shenzhen on May 18, 2024, and an Academic Seminar on "The Security Situation in the Indian Ocean in the Changing World Landscape" will also be held concurrently. This conference is hosted by the Indian Ocean Studies Association, a branch of the China South Asia Studies Association, and organized by the Institute of Area Studies, Country Studies, and International Communication/School of Foreign Languages, Shenzhen University.

II. Conference Topics

The conference will focus on five main topic areas:

Sub-Topic 1: Focus on Global Changes, Grand Strategies, and the Security Situation in the Indian Ocean: This includes the evolution of the world order and international political and economic situations, the security situation in the Indian Ocean, the situation in the Bay of Bengal region, the political, economic, social, and security situations of Indian Ocean island countries, security cognition shaping, and security governance.

Sub-Topic 2: Focus on Regional and Country-Specific Issues in South Asia: This includes the geopolitical landscape of South Asia, the security situation in South Asia, and the political, economic, social, and diplomatic situations of South Asian countries.

Sub-Topic 3: Focus on Regional and Country-Specific Issues in Southeast Asia: This includes the situation in Southeast Asia and the political, economic, social, and security situations of major Southeast Asian countries.

Sub-Topic 4: Focus on Regional and Country-Specific Issues in the Middle East and Africa: This includes the situation in the Middle East and major international political, economic, and security situations in the region; as well as the situation in Africa and the political, economic, and security situations of major African countries.

Sub-Topic 5: Focus on Regional and Country-Specific Issues in Australia: This includes major international political, economic, and security situations in Australia.

III. Conference Schedule

Registration begins at 14:00 on Friday, May 17, 2024.

The opening ceremony and academic seminar will be held throughout the day on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

IV. Conference Venue

Liya Charlton Hotel, Shenzhen Bay Technology Park, Address: No. 13, Gaoxin Nan Si Dao, Gaoxin Technology Park, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.

V. Conference Fees and Accommodation

  1. There are no conference fees.

  2. Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

  3. The hotel offers two types of rooms: King rooms at 550 yuan/room (including one breakfast) and Twin rooms at 600 yuan/room (including two breakfasts). Receipts can be issued.
